Welcome to the University of Oregon. On your first walk through campus you will be left saying, "Man, that looks nice." Well rest assured, it is very nice. But is it worth over $36,000 annually to stay here? What if somebody told you to take this money and educate yourself and buy what you need along the way; what would you get? These are burning (and extremely entertaining) questions that I ask myself in the back of overcrowded lecture halls, wishing I was somewhere that has a drop of sunshine to offer.
Today, some of us are willing to spend more on college tuition than others make annually. Is it really worth it? Finally I have a blog where my bias can take over and I can answer wholeheartedly: hell no. I am confident that today's "liberal" education misses a lot of the things that are important to giving things meaning, helping us think critically, and defining us as human beings. This blog consists of things that might not be found in the classroom, but influence us in different ways nonetheless. By scouring the web and pillaging cities with my iPhone, I hope to fill in some of the loopholes that formal educational means leave untied. If you're with me, lets do the damn thing, and if you're not, please put your head back in your textbook. That's all.
